Adding to the City of Angels’s style cred is the growing number of emerging brands that pop up each season, such as the recently launched Haber, which debuted with an L.A. Fashion Week presentation last month at TenOverSix. The brand is helmed by Miami native Heather Goldberg, who moved to L.A. to study fashion design and art history/theory at Otis College of Art and Design. Haber specializes in floaty pieces with a tomboyish twist (which Goldberg attributes to having grown up with three brothers). The line takes its name from the designer’s great-grandmother, Helen Haber. “A lot of people have described it as ‘ethereal,’ but I get really sick of that word,” said Goldberg, 26, who worked at threeASFOUR and Band of Outsiders post-graduation. “I think it’s dreamy and melancholic. At least that’s how I was feeling when I made it, and I think those moods go directly into what you are creating. The intention is a huge part of the outcome.”Her intention for the Fall 2013 collection was to make the invisible visible in an abstract way. “In a more tangible way, it is about existing in a very moody, melancholic seascape, and a lot of the emotions that surround that proposition,” explained Goldberg. She cites late artist Bas Jan Ader’s performance piece, “In Search of the Miraculous,” Jacques Deray’s La Piscine, and Éric Rohmer’s La Collectionneuse as additional inspirations.But though its origins may sound somewhat gloomy (Bas Jan Ader died during the making of “In Search of the Miraculous”), the collection of draped tops, gauzy skirts, and dreamy dresses feels hopeful thanks to fluttery details, raw-edge seaming, body-grazing silhouettes Canada Goose sale , and a soothing palette of dusty lilac, dove gray and petal pink offset by a jolt of moody black.
